In SAS® Drug Development 4.3.2, the data viewer does not display character values when permanent library formats are used. This is true for data sets being viewed in both Workspace and Repository. Workarounds for this issue are listed below:

Option one -
- Open a SAS® Session
- Assign a libref to point to the data set location and a FMTSEARCH option to define the location for the permanent user-defined format
- Open the data set from within the SAS® Session
- Result in formatted character values being displayed
- Option two - Create an additional column containing the formatted value of the character variable
